JAYCEE DUGARD
"In the summer of 1991 I was a normal kid. I did normal things.
I had friends and a mother who loved me. I was just like you.
Until the day my life was stolen..."
For eighteen years, Jaycee Lee Dugard was a prisoner. She was an object for someone to
use and abuse. For eighteen years she wasn't even allowed to speak her own name. She was known as "Alyssa". She became a mother at 13, and was forced to to tell people that she and her two daughters were the children of Phillip and Nancy Garrido; when the went out in public. For eighteen years, Jaycee
Dugard survived the most impossible situation.
"On August 26th, 2009, I took my name back.
MY NAME IS JAYCEE LEE DUGARD.
I don't consider myself a victim.
I consider myself a surviver."

PHILLIP GARRIDO
Phillip Garrido (60 years old) -a convicted sex offender- drove along a rode in Lake Tahoe, California on June 10th, 1991 with his wife, Nancy. Nancy had scouted Jaycee Dugard several days before, and they had finally decided it was time. Phillip pulled up alongside the innocent little girl, in his small grey car, and acted like he needed directions. Before Jaycee had time to react... Phillip pulled out his stun-gun, and got Jaycee right in the leg. With the help of his wife; Phillip held Jaycee prisoner in his backyard, for 18 years. He raped her numerous times, and made her a mother to two daughters. Phillip Garrido was on parole for raping a 14-year old girl, several years ago; and sexually assulting another minor. Parole officers came to the Garrido's home approximately 40 times, and NOT ONCE looked in the backyard. One of the officers even made conversation with Jaycee one time, and didn't even ask her who she was.

Phillip Garrido was sentenced to 431 years to life in prison, with 29 charges of kidnapping, and 29
charges of sexual assult. Both Phillip and Nancy Garrido pleaded guilty in court, which allowed Jaycee not to testify.
"With a guilty plea by both defendants [...] Jaycee and her children can now be spared the grief and trauma of having to be dragged into the court process to testify at a jury trial."

District AttourneyShe will be eligible for parole in 31 years, but El Dorado District Attourney Vern Pierson said he was "confident she will spend the rest of her life in prison." He said she agreed to the plea only because her husband also pleaded guilty and waived his right to appeal.
